I fin...I have just come across this post from 2008! I finally picked up a book that has been on my shelf for about 25 years: The Sufis by Idries Shah, and read the first chapter, the fable of the Islanders. I saw that the swimmers were the ones who in these times would be meditating and learning to connect with the divine light within. The ones who are waking up to the fact that this crazy earth-life is not REAL. There are thousands of these people, waking up in different way, learning different swimmer's strokes. Calling themselves by different names, most are not known as Sufis. Of course I've only read the first chapter, so maybe I'll learn there is more than I think to differentiate the Sufi swimmers from other types!<br /> You may wonder why this book sat unread on my shelf for so long, while I've been reading many other metaphysical and spiritual books. It's a very fat book with tiny print, and I didn't give it the chance it deserved. How very strange that this book was a gift from an old friend who has since become an exclusive Christian and disowned me because I believe in the oneness of all humanity with each other and with All-That-Is: Love.Emily VanLaeyshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00926437084636415151noreply@blogger.com
